White Rim Trail Trailhead

Gateway to Canyonlands' legendary 100-mile 4WD loop through the Island in the Sky district.

The White Rim trailhead sits at the bottom of Shafer Trail, marking the start (or end) of Utah’s most famous multi-day 4WD adventure. The actual White Rim Road winds 100 miles through spectacular canyon country, requiring permits and advance planning. Most overlanders use this spot to air down, check gear, and commit to the route ahead.

No facilities here — just a junction of dirt roads in the desert. The trailhead is accessible to high-clearance vehicles via Shafer Trail descent. Cell service is nonexistent. This is commitment country — once you start the White Rim loop, you’re in for the duration.
