Hiawatha National Forest Whitefish Bay Dispersed Sites
A string of informal sites along Whitefish Bay’s sandy shoreline, each offering direct beach access and unobstructed Lake Superior views. Sites are scattered over a mile stretch, most accommodating single rigs with room for awnings. The beach provides excellent sunrise photography and driftwood for campfires. Popular with weekend warriors May through October, but weekdays offer solid solitude.
Access via County Road 444 to Forest Road 42, then sand two-tracks to individual sites. High-clearance helpful but not required — sand can get soft after rain. Cell service spotty but occasionally catches Canadian towers across the bay.
