Haines Junction — Kluane Lake Road Junction Viewpoint and Staging
Haines Junction is the last real town before Kluane National Park swallows the landscape. The road junction here — Alaska Highway 1 meeting the Haines Road (Highway 3) south toward Alaska — is a true overlanding node. The St. Elias Range dominates the western skyline on a clear day with peaks pushing above 17,000 feet. There’s a Parks Canada visitor centre here with good trip planning resources for Kluane, fuel, a grocery store, and a few local food options. If you’re staged for the Dezadeash Lake backcountry routes or the Kluane Lakeshore run, this is your last full resupply.
Town is small but reliably stocked through summer. Fuel availability is good. The Kluane National Park visitor centre on the main highway has current road and weather conditions for the backcountry — worth a stop before heading into the hills. Roads west of here see more gravel and weather exposure.
Last real stop before the St. Elias swallows you.
