Fremont-Winema National Forest — Dairy Creek Campground
Dairy Creek Campground sits in the ponderosa and lodgepole pine belt of the Fremont-Winema National Forest, a quiet, low-traffic site that rarely fills even on summer weekends. It’s a genuine no-frills stop — vault toilet, a handful of sites, fire rings, and creek access. Elevation keeps things cool even in July, and the surrounding timber makes it feel remote even though it’s reachable by most high-clearance 2WDs. Great staging point for anyone running the Lakeview to Fremont-Winema plateau routes or connecting south toward Hart Mountain.
Access is via Forest Road 28 off Highway 31 near Paisley. The road is gravel and generally passable after snowmelt — typically June through October. No hookups, no potable water — treat creek water or pack your own. Cell service is essentially zero out here. Check with the Paisley Ranger District before rolling in early or late season.
