Buckhorn Wash Pictograph Panel
This dramatic rock art panel stretches across 100 feet of red sandstone cliff face, displaying some of the finest Barrier Canyon-style pictographs in the Southwest. The haunting anthropomorphic figures, painted in red ochre over 2,000 years ago, include the famous “Holy Ghost” panel. The site sits in a protected alcove that’s kept the paintings remarkably well-preserved. Viewing is from a maintained trail with interpretive signs — do not approach or touch the rock art.
The site is reached via Buckhorn Wash Road, a maintained dirt road suitable for any vehicle in dry conditions. Flash flood danger exists in the wash during storms. Respect the cultural site and pack out all trash. No facilities available — bring water and plan for a full day exploring the surrounding San Rafael Swell.
