Goblin Valley State Park Mushroom Rock Formations

Point of Interest

The heart of Goblin Valley is a surreal landscape of thousands of mushroom-shaped sandstone formations, carved by millions of years of water and wind erosion. These hoodoos stand 3-15 feet tall across the valley floor, creating natural mazes and amphitheaters that invite exploration on foot. The Entrada Sandstone formations glow orange and red in morning and evening light, with the most concentrated clusters accessible via a short trail from the main overlook.

Access is via a paved park road off Highway 24, with parking at the main overlook and additional trailheads scattered throughout the park. The formations are fragile — climbing is discouraged to preserve them for future generations. Best visited in spring and fall when temperatures are moderate, as summer heat can be brutal in the exposed valley.
