Buchanan State Forest Tuscarora Trail Mile 8 Dispersed Area
Several primitive camping areas scattered along the Tuscarora Trail corridor about 8 miles from the nearest trailhead. These are true backcountry spots accessible via old logging roads, offering solitude and ridge-top views when the leaves are down. Each area can accommodate 1-2 small groups with space for tents or small camping rigs. Water is available from seasonal springs, but treat before drinking. Fire rings present at some sites.
Access requires navigating rocky old logging roads that demand 4WD and good ground clearance. Trail intersection markers help with navigation, but GPS is recommended. Best visited spring through fall — winter access is challenging and some roads may be gated. Expect complete solitude except during hunting season.
