Buachaille Etive Mòr — Rannoch Moor Gateway Viewpoint
Buachaille Etive Mòr stands sentinel at the junction of Glencoe and Glen Etive, its near-perfect conical profile dominating the flat expanse of Rannoch Moor. The classic layby pullout on the A82 just west of the Kings House Hotel puts you face-to-face with the full south face — sunrise here in autumn when the moor is rust-red is the kind of thing that makes you pull over and just sit for twenty minutes. No facilities, no fuss. Just you, the mountain, and the wind off the moor.
Glen Etive Road drops south from this junction — a single-track tarmac run into one of the most remote glens on the Scottish mainland. Popular wild camping along the river means the track gets busy in summer; early morning or shoulder season is a different story entirely. The Kings House Hotel is nearby for a pint and a weather check.
Scotland's iconic pyramid on the open moor.
