Glen Coe — Glencoe Lochan and Signal Rock Trailhead
Most folk blast straight through Glencoe on the A82 without stopping. Those who pull into the Glencoe Lochan car park find a genuinely different experience: a mature birch and pine forest, a still mountain lochan, and Signal Rock — the wooded knoll where, according to tradition, the signal fire was lit before the 1692 massacre. It’s a short but atmospheric walk, surrounded by some of the most dramatic mountain scenery in Scotland. The car park is a proper NTS facility with toilets.
Access is off the main A82, signed for Glencoe Village rather than the ski centre. The track to the car park is paved and suitable for any vehicle. Busy in summer, especially on wet days when hikers skip the ridges. The lochan loop itself is an easy 2-mile circuit — good legs-stretch after a long drive north or a staging walk before tackling the Aonach Eagach. No overnight camping in the car park.
