BLM Sheepherder Hill Dispersed Area
A cluster of established dispersed sites scattered across rolling hills east of Baker, offering commanding views of the surrounding desert basins. Sites are well-spaced with natural windbreaks from Joshua trees and desert shrub. Fire rings and makeshift rock tables mark the most popular spots. The area fills up during cooler months with snowbirds and Death Valley visitors, but you’ll usually find space even on busy weekends.
Access via graded dirt road from Kelbaker Road — passable for any vehicle in dry conditions but can get soft sand patches after rain. No services or water, and cell service is spotty at best. Popular staging area for exploring nearby Kelso Dunes and Mojave National Preserve.
