Apgar Campground sprawls across 194 sites along the shores of Lake McDonald, making it Glacier’s biggest frontcountry campground. The lower loops stay open year-round while upper loops close seasonally. Sites range from tent-friendly spots to RV-capable spaces, though hookups aren’t available. Expect crowds May through September, with July and August being absolute zoo territory.
Located just inside the park’s west entrance, it’s perfectly positioned for hitting Going-to-the-Sun Road or exploring the lake by boat. The campground store and visitor center are walking distance. Road access is paved and easy for any rig, but sites fill fast during peak season.
