Buffalo Springs Campground — Pike-San Isabel National Forest
Buffalo Springs sits in open South Park terrain in the Pike-San Isabel National Forest, north of Weston Pass Road and within easy striking distance of Fairplay. It’s a no-frills developed camp — vault toilets, fire rings, and wide-open high-country sky. The elevation and exposed setting mean cool nights even in midsummer. Crowds are light compared to the more popular Eleven Mile and Antero Reservoir areas nearby. It draws hunters in fall, so expect company in September and October.
Access off US-285 and CR 22 is straightforward — suitable for most tow rigs and long-bed trucks. From here, Weston Pass Road (CR 5) is a short drive south through Fairplay, making this a natural first or last night on the trail. Water is not available on-site — tank up in Fairplay before you pull in. Confirm current fees and availability with the South Park Ranger District before your trip.
