Fremont-Winema National Forest — Happy Camp Campground

Happy Camp Campground sits on the Fremont-Winema National Forest east of Bly, Oregon, along the Sprague River drainage corridor. It’s a no-frills dispersed-style developed camp — vault toilet, a handful of sites, fire rings — that sees almost no weekend warrior traffic. The understory is open ponderosa with decent shade. Elevation puts you above the valley heat in summer. It’s quiet enough that you’ll hear coyotes all night and nothing else.

Access via Forest Road 28 / Ivory Pine Road is manageable for any high-clearance rig on dry ground. Snow lingers into May at this elevation, and the road can be muddy in early spring. No potable water on-site — filter from the nearby creek or carry in. Cell service is essentially nil. This is a useful overnight waypoint for anyone running the Lakeview–Warner Mountains–Drake Peak corridor or transitioning between Fremont and the Outback routes.
