Glass Mountains Natural Spring
This unnamed spring seeps from the base of the Glass Mountains’ selenite formations, providing clear, cold water year-round even when the surrounding country is bone dry. The spring pools in a small depression before trickling into Salt Fork Red River. Water flows consistently but slowly — plan to wait for containers to fill. Local ranchers have used this source for generations.
Access via rough ranch roads off Highway 412 — high-clearance recommended for the final approach. The selenite crystals scattered throughout these badlands catch sunlight like broken glass, hence the name. Bring a good filter; while the water is clean, it has a slight mineral taste from the gypsum formations.
