Yellowwood Lake Dam Spillway
This Depression-era stone spillway was built by the CCC in 1939 and creates one of Indiana’s most photogenic waterfalls when Yellowwood Lake spills over. The spillway drops about 15 feet into a natural pool that’s deep enough for swimming — though the water stays chilly even in summer. Stone steps lead down from the parking area to the base, where flat rocks make decent spots for lunch or just watching the water.
Access is via the main forest road, about 2 miles from the entrance. Water flow varies dramatically with rainfall — it can be a trickle in dry summers or a roaring cascade after spring rains. The area gets crowded on weekends when the weather’s nice, but weekdays are usually peaceful. Watch your footing on the wet rocks below the falls.
