Thomas Creek Campground

High-elevation Forest Service campground in the Ruby Mountains with creek access and stunning alpine scenery.

Nestled at 6,400 feet in the Ruby Mountains, this small USFS campground offers 40 sites along Thomas Creek with vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. The setting is spectacular—aspen groves, towering peaks, and a year-round creek running through camp. Most sites can handle mid-size RVs, though a few are tent-only. No hookups or water spigots.

Access via gravel Forest Road 660 requires high-clearance but not 4WD under normal conditions. Popular with hunters in fall and hikers heading into the Ruby Crest Trail system. Typically open June through October depending on snowpack. Sites fill up on summer weekends.
