Humbolt-Toiyabe National Forest Ruby Crest Trail Dispersed Sites
Scattered along the Ruby Crest Trail corridor, these high-alpine dispersed sites offer some of Nevada’s most spectacular mountain camping at 9,000+ feet elevation. Natural clearings in the whitebark pine accommodate 8-10 small rigs with established fire rings and incredible views of glacier-carved peaks and alpine lakes. The Ruby Mountains rise dramatically from the desert floor, creating an unexpected slice of Swiss Alps in the Great Basin.
Access via Harrison Pass Road (Forest Road 660) requires 12 miles of rocky, narrow mountain road — 4WD recommended for the final 6 miles. Road typically closed by snow November through June. Water available from streams and lakes but requires filtration. Popular with backpackers July through September, quieter in early fall.
