Sherando Lake Recreation Area Campground
Sherando Lake sits at 2,000 feet elevation in the Blue Ridge Mountains, offering 64 campsites around a 24-acre mountain lake. The campground has two loops — upper sites offer more privacy while lower sites are closer to the lake and beach area. Swimming is popular in summer, and the lake is stocked with trout. Sites have picnic tables and fire rings, with modern restrooms and hot showers available.
Access is via paved VA-664 from Waynesboro, then 3 miles on Forest Road. The campground fills on summer weekends, especially during peak fall foliage. Swimming beach gets busy with day-use visitors. Open April through October, with some sites winterized for off-season camping.
