Mount Pleasant National Scenic Area Trailhead
The Mount Pleasant Trail starts from this well-maintained trailhead, climbing 1,400 feet over 2.8 miles to one of Virginia’s finest summit views. The trail passes through old-growth hemlock groves before reaching the rocky summit with panoramic views of the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge. Popular with day hikers but not overly crowded except on perfect fall weekends.
Trailhead has decent parking for 20-25 vehicles, vault toilets, and trail information kiosk. Access via gravel Forest Road 42 from Vesuvius — about 5 miles of good gravel road suitable for any vehicle. Trail can be icy in winter; microspikes recommended December through March.
