Parque Nacional Natural Sumapaz Camping Nazareth
This designated camping area sits within Sumapaz National Park’s pristine páramo landscape, Colombia’s largest protected high-mountain ecosystem. Basic facilities include pit toilets and fire rings, with space for about 8 vehicles. The thin air and cold nights demand proper cold-weather gear — temperatures can drop below freezing year-round. Frailejones and other endemic plants create an otherworldly landscape that feels more like the moon than tropical Colombia.
Access requires 4WD and high-clearance vehicle via rough mountain roads from Usme or Fusagasugá. Road conditions deteriorate rapidly during rainy season (April-November). No services for 60+ kilometers — bring all water, food, and fuel. Park permits required in advance through PNN system.
