Oliver Lee Memorial State Park

Desert basecamp beneath the Organ Mountains with hot showers, hiking trails, and killer sunset views over the Tularosa Basin.

Perched at the mouth of Dog Canyon on the western slope of the Sacramento Mountains, this state park offers 44 developed sites with hookups, restrooms with hot showers, and a visitor center. The desert setting provides expansive views across the Tularosa Basin toward White Sands, with the jagged Organ Mountains dominating the southern horizon. Sites are spacious with some shade from desert trees, and the campground rarely fills except during peak spring weather.

The park sits at 4,363 feet elevation, making it cooler than the basin floor but still accessible year-round. A 5.5-mile trail climbs into Dog Canyon for those wanting to stretch their legs after desert driving. The last 0.3 miles to the park entrance is paved but steep.

Desert camping with mountain views and hot showers.
