This hidden gem offers primitive camping along the Little Missouri River with stunning badlands scenery all around. Sites are spread out across rolling prairie with cottonwoods along the water — feels more like dispersed camping than a traditional state park. Fire rings, vault toilets, and a hand pump for water. Peaceful as hell except when the river runs high.
Access via gravel road from Killdeer, about 20 miles north. Road can get muddy after rain. No reservations, just find a spot and settle in for $10 a night. Popular with hunters in fall, nearly empty otherwise.
