Theodore Roosevelt National Park North Unit Juniper Campground
Juniper Campground sits in the heart of the North Unit’s rolling badlands, offering 50 sites scattered among juniper trees and prairie grass. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring, with vault toilets and potable water available but no hookups or showers. The campground rarely fills except during peak summer weekends, making it a reliable base camp for exploring the unit’s 36-mile scenic drive and numerous hiking trails.
Access is straightforward via paved roads from Highway 85, about 15 miles south of Watford City. The campground operates year-round but water may be turned off in winter. Sites are first-come, first-served with a 14-day limit and modest fee. Cell service is spotty at best.
