Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park Campground
Liard River Hot Springs is one of the most famous stops on the Alaska Highway and a genuine must-stop for anyone running the Fort Nelson corridor. Two thermal pools — Alpha and Beta — fed by geothermal springs sit within a short boardwalk hike from the campground. Alpha pool is shallow and social; Beta requires a longer walk and feels more like backcountry. The campground has 53 sites, flush toilets, and is operated by BC Parks. It fills fast in summer — reservation is strongly recommended July through August.
Located at roughly Mile 497 of the Alaska Highway (Hwy 97), about 130 km north of Fort Nelson. Paved access all the way to the gate. Cell service is essentially absent out here — plan accordingly. Open late April through October depending on snow. Bear activity is real — hang your food. This is a popular overnight for overlanders heading to the Yukon or running the Hyland River FSR route.
Best hot springs stop on the Alaska Hwy.
