James River State Park Campground
This 2,400-acre state park offers 20 tent and RV sites spread across two loops, most with electric hookups and several right along the James River. Sites are well-spaced with decent privacy, fire rings, and picnic tables. The park features canoe rentals, fishing access, and 15 miles of hiking trails through mixed forest and along the river bluffs.
The campground rarely fills except holiday weekends, making it reliable without reservations. River access is excellent for paddling, and the park connects to the James River Heritage Trail. Facilities include hot showers, a camp store, and a visitor center. Ground can get soft after heavy rain.
