Grand Portage State Park
Grand Portage State Park sits right at the Minnesota-Ontario border, anchored by the spectacular 120-foot High Falls on the Pigeon River. The park offers developed camping with 15 sites that can handle everything from tents to big rigs, plus vault toilets, fire rings, and picnic tables. It’s a solid base camp for exploring the Superior National Forest trails and serves overlanders heading to or from the Boundary Waters.
Access is straightforward off Highway 61, just 5 miles northeast of Grand Portage. The High Falls Trail is an easy half-mile walk to the overlook. Park gets busy during peak fall colors in September, so mid-week visits work better. Winter closure typically runs December through April.
Minnesota's highest waterfall and border camping.
