Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Moose Lake Entry Point
Entry Point 16 serves the Moose Lake chain deep in the BWCAW, reached by 6 miles of increasingly rough forest road from the Gunflint Trail. Small parking area for maybe 8 vehicles, vault toilet, and a basic boat launch. No drinking water or services — this is true wilderness access. Advanced reservations required May through September.
Final 2 miles are rocky, rutted forest road best tackled with high-clearance vehicles. Road can be impassable during spring melt or after heavy rains. Black flies and mosquitoes are legendary from June through August. Pack DEET and head nets if you value your sanity.
