Gibb River Road — Barnett River Station Creek Flat Dispersed Camp

Dispersed Camping

Tucked into the creek flats alongside the Barnett River near Mount Barnett Roadhouse, this is a genuine bush camp in the heart of the Kimberley. Red-rock escarpments frame the skyline, boab trees dot the flat, and the river crossing is close enough that you can hear the water after a wet season flush. No facilities, no signage — just dirt, shade, and the sounds of the bush at night. Works best as a mid-Gibb staging camp before hitting Manning Gorge early the next morning.

Access is via the Gibb River Road itself — conditions vary wildly by season. Corrugations can be brutal in the dry season build-up. Check road conditions with the Shire of Derby-West Kimberley before committing. Wet season (November–April) renders the Gibb impassable for most rigs. Dry season only for most travellers.

Mid-Gibb creek flat under boabs and red rock.
