George Washington National Forest North River Gorge Dispersed Area
Multiple primitive camping spots scattered along Forest Service Road 95 (North River Road) offer creek-side camping in a hardwood hollow. Sites accommodate 2-4 vehicles each with natural fire rings and access to North River for water filtering. Popular with local hunters during fall season, otherwise quiet. No facilities beyond established fire rings at most spots.
Access via gravel FS Road 95 from Stokesville — road can be rough after spring runoff but passable for most high-clearance vehicles. Best sites are 3-5 miles up from the gate. Road typically closed December through March due to snow and ice conditions.
