Fields — Fields Station Fuel and Cafe
Fields Station is a genuine high-desert institution. It sits at the intersection of Fields-Denio Road and the Steens Mountain Loop Road, which puts it at the crossroads of virtually every major route in southeast Oregon’s outback. They pump fuel, serve burgers and legendary milkshakes, and stock basic groceries and snacks. The building looks like it was nailed together from what was available, which is part of the charm. Population of Fields is around six people. The fuel price will sting — you’re paying the remote tax — but the alternative is running dry in the Alvord.
Hours are limited and variable, especially in off-season — call ahead or verify on social before planning a hard fuel stop here. Cash is a safe backup. This is the anchor resupply point for anyone running the Alvord Desert playa, the Steens east-side routes, or the Fields-to-Frenchglen traverse. Don’t blow past it assuming you’ll find something further south. You won’t.
Last fuel and milkshakes before the Alvord.
