A well-developed trailhead at Elk Lake serving multiple trail systems into the Three Sisters Wilderness and surrounding peaks. The parking area accommodates 30+ vehicles with vault toilets, trail information kiosks, and easy lake access. Trails lead to South Sister, Mount Bachelor backcountry, and numerous alpine lakes. The lake itself offers fishing and paddling opportunities when not frozen. Extremely popular in summer with day hikers and backpackers.
Located along the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway (Highway 46), about 33 miles southwest of Bend. Road is typically closed by snow from November through May or June. Arrive early in summer to secure parking as the lot fills by mid-morning on weekends.
