Capitol Reef National Park Goosenecks Overlook

The Goosenecks Overlook provides a bird’s-eye view of Sulphur Creek’s incredible meanders — tight S-curves cut 600 feet deep into white and red sandstone. The overlook sits on the canyon rim with sweeping views of the entrenched river bends that give this spot its name. It’s a short, easy walk from the parking area to the fenced viewpoint, making it accessible for all visitors. The contrast between the dark green creek bottom and bright sandstone walls is striking, especially with late afternoon light.

Access is via the scenic Capitol Reef Scenic Drive, a paved road that requires a park entry fee. The overlook trail is just 1.3 miles round trip on mostly level ground. No water or facilities at the overlook itself, but the visitor center 8 miles south has full amenities. Wind can be strong on the exposed rim, and the unfenced areas require caution.
