Fishlake National Forest Thousand Lake Mountain Dispersed Area
Scattered primitive sites along the Thousand Lake Mountain plateau at 9,000+ feet elevation, offering commanding views of Capitol Reef, the Henry Mountains, and the Escalante region. Level spots for 1-2 rigs each, surrounded by aspen groves and scattered pines. Fire restrictions often in effect during dry periods. Popular with hunters in fall but otherwise sees moderate use from overlanders and photographers chasing sunrise shots.
Accessed via rough forest roads that require 4WD when wet — can be impassable during spring snowmelt. No water sources, no facilities, limited cell coverage. Best June through September, though nights get cold even in summer. Snow typically closes access October through May.
