Bridger-Teton National Forest — Greys River Road Upper Canyon Dispersed Camp

The Greys River Road (FR 10138) is one of Wyoming’s best-kept overland secrets — a 70-mile dirt corridor through the Bridger-Teton that connects Alpine to Hoback Junction with almost zero development. The upper canyon stretch delivers pull-off sites right on the river, lodgepole and spruce canopy overhead, and a mountain backdrop that earns its keep. Expect packed-gravel flats with room for two or three rigs, no facilities whatsoever, and light traffic outside of hunting season. Fire restrictions apply mid-summer — check with the Greys River Ranger District before you light anything.

High-clearance 2WD handles most of the road in dry conditions, but a handful of rocky and washboarded sections make 4WD useful when it’s wet. Road is typically open June through October — spring runoff and late-season snow can close it at either end. No signage marks specific camp spots; you scout and pull off where the river lets you. Cell service is essentially nonexistent for the full corridor.
