Union Pass Summit — Wind River and Green River Divide Viewpoint
Union Pass sits at roughly 9,210 feet on the Continental Divide between Dubois and Pinedale, and it’s one of the few spots in the lower 48 where three major river systems — the Green, the Wind, and the Gros Ventre — all shed water in different directions. The views are wide and honest: open sagebrush plateaus, distant Wind River peaks to the east, and the Gros Ventre Range rolling west. The Trans-America Trail crosses right over this pass, making it an unavoidable landmark. No facilities, no crowds, no guardrails — just a signed summit marker and big sky.
The road to the pass is maintained gravel and dirt — passable in a stock high-clearance rig in dry conditions. After rain or early-season snow it can get greasy and soft. Typically open June through October depending on snowpack. Fuel up in Pinedale or Dubois before heading this way — there’s nothing out here between the two towns.
Three river drainages meet at 9,200 ft.
