Bridger-Teton National Forest — Union Pass Road Upper Plateau Dispersed Camp
Union Pass sits at roughly 9,210 feet and marks one of the few places in the lower 48 where three major river systems split from a single ridgeline. The dispersed camping along the upper plateau section of Forest Road 600 (Union Pass Road) puts you in wide-open high-country with big views of the Wind River Range to the east and the Absarokas to the northwest. Ground is mostly firm dirt and short sagebrush — tent-friendly, rig-friendly, no crowds mid-week. No facilities whatsoever. This is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out deal. Bears are present; hang your food or box it.
FR 600 is gravel and dirt, manageable for high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions but gets greasy fast after rain. Snow can linger into June and returns by October. No signage marks camping areas specifically — use common sense, stay 200 feet off water and off the road. Cell service is essentially gone. Closest fuel is Pinedale, roughly 40 miles south.
Triple divide sagebrush flat at 9,000 feet.
