Botanie Valley Road — Botanie Lake BC Parks Campground

Botanie Lake sits above the Thompson River canyon north of Lytton, reached by a long climb up Botanie Valley Road through an arid landscape that transitions into sub-alpine meadows near the lake. BC Parks maintains a basic campground here — pit toilets, fire rings, and open sites with views across the water. It’s lightly used compared to the Coquihalla corridor camps, which means you’ll likely have it to yourself mid-week. The lake supports a trout fishery. Wildflowers in June and July are legitimately spectacular on the surrounding plateau.

The road up from Lytton is rough gravel with steep sections — high-clearance is recommended and 4WD earns its keep when wet. The upper portion can hold snow into late May. No drinking water at the campground; treat from the lake. This is a legit anchor camp for anyone running the Cayoosh or Nahatlatch corridors who wants to stage north of Hope rather than at a highway campground.
