Blood Mountain Trailhead
The main trailhead for Blood Mountain sits at Neels Gap along US 19/129, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the road through the Mountain Crossings outfitter store. The 4.3-mile round-trip hike climbs steeply to Georgia’s highest peak accessible by foot, topping out at the historic stone shelter built by the CCC in the 1930s.
Parking fills early on weekends — arrive before 9am or consider the Byron Reece Trail approach from Vogel State Park. The final stretch to the summit involves some rock scrambling, and weather can change quickly at elevation. Water available at the store, which also stocks maps and basic hiking supplies.
