Bear Lake Chevron and Trading Post
This high-elevation fuel station sits at 7,900 feet where US-89 crests the Bear Lake summit, making it a critical resupply point for overlanders tackling the nearby Emigrant Trail routes or heading into the Uinta backcountry. The attached trading post stocks propane, ice, basic groceries, and surprisingly decent jerky and trail snacks. Fuel prices run higher than valley stations, but it’s the last reliable stop before dropping into remote country.
The station operates year-round despite harsh winters, though hours can be limited during off-season. The location offers spectacular views of Bear Lake’s turquoise waters 1,000 feet below. Overlanders often use the parking area as an impromptu meeting spot before tackling technical trails in the area.
