Soldier Meadows Guest Ranch and Hot Springs Campground — Black Rock Desert
Soldier Meadows is one of the most storied fuel-and-rest stops in the Nevada outback. The guest ranch sits at the base of the Calico Mountains, offering designated campsites with fire rings, access to natural geothermal pools, and a social campfire vibe that draws overlanders, hunters, and desert explorers alike. It’s not primitive — there’s a fee, and they prefer reservations in peak season — but that shower and those hot pools feel like gold after three days on Black Rock dust.
Access is via Soldier Meadows Road off US-447 north of Gerlach — roughly 30 miles of improving dirt that’s passable to most high-clearance rigs in dry conditions. The road can get punishing after rain. Cell service is essentially zero out here. Spring and fall are the sweet spots; summer is brutally hot and flash flood season makes the playa unpredictable. Confirm current availability and pricing directly with the ranch before you roll out.
Hot springs and cold desert sky — earn it.
