Glencoe — Pass of Glencoe Valley Floor Viewpoint
The A82 cuts straight through the Pass of Glencoe and delivers one of the most visceral roadside landscapes in Britain. Buachaille Etive Mòr guards the eastern approach, three-thousand-foot ridgelines press in from both sides, and the valley floor is littered with boulders deposited by ice that carved this place out hard. Pull-offs are scattered along the road — the main Glencoe visitor centre pull-off near Achtriochtan is the most used, but the raw material is free and everywhere.
This is a year-round destination but summer brings serious tourist traffic on the A82. Winter turns the whole place black and white and genuinely brutal. The valley is also saturated in history — the 1692 Glencoe Massacre happened here, and that weight sits in the landscape. No vehicle restrictions on the road itself; rough terrain starts the moment you step off it.
Scotland's darkest, most dramatic glacial pass.
