Tyaughton Lake FSR — Mud Creek Trailhead and Staging Area
This wide gravel flat sits just off the Tyaughton Lake FSR near the Mud Creek drainage, used for decades as the de facto staging area before runs deeper into South Chilcotin Mountains Provincial Park. It’s a known reference point in the overland and horse-packing community — enough room to turn a trailer, aired-down tires, and a quick gear check before the road gets serious. No formal facilities, no signage. Expect dusty in summer, wet and greasy in shoulder seasons.
Access requires a high-clearance 4WD, especially after the junction past Tyaughton Lake. Road conditions are entirely weather-dependent — late June through September is the reliable window. No cell signal. The FSR has a handful of rough creek crossings that can be problematic in spring runoff. Plan fuel from Gold Bridge; there is nothing past that point.
Stage up before the South Chilcotin gets serious.
