Slesse Creek FSR to Nesakwatch Valley
Granite walls, a crash site, and real 4WD terrain.
Most Lower Mainland drivers have heard of Mount Slesse — the peak where a 1956 Trans-Canada Airlines crash left wreckage visible from below for decades. What fewer people know is that the Slesse Creek FSR off Nesakwatch Road south of Cultus Lake grinds you right up to the base of that wall. The road climbs through dense coastal second-growth before the valley opens and the granite towers of the Slesse massif fill your windshield completely. A creek crossing at roughly Km 14 is the main commitment point — it’s manageable in late summer but impassable during spring runoff. A rough spur at the road’s end puts you at the unofficial Nesakwatch Creek trailhead, a genuine wilderness gateway.
This is a legitimate 4WD trail — the rocky creek crossings and loose shelf sections in the upper valley will punish stock SUVs with low-profile tires. Locker or limited-slip is a real asset here. Best window is late July through September; snowmelt keeps the main creek high and the upper spur greasy through June most years. No permit required, no fee. Fuel in Chilliwack. Zero cell service past the pavement. Dispersed camping is possible in the lower valley on Crown land below the park boundary.
