Cayoosh Creek FSR to Duffey Lake Backcountry

Forgotten FSR deep in the Cayoosh Range.

Difficult

Most people blow through the Duffey Lake corridor on Highway 99 without a second thought. Go find the Cayoosh Creek FSR branching south off the highway near Duffey Lake Provincial Park and you’re in a completely different world — tight logging shelf roads, creek crossings, and old cutblock spurs that climb toward the alpine. The route parallels the Cayoosh Creek drainage, passing through second-growth timber and opening up into boulder-strewn meadows above the tree line. Watch for the deteriorating bridge sections around kilometer 28 — they’re passable but not something you want to test with a fully loaded trailer.

This is a moderate-to-difficult route depending on recent blowdown and how early in the season you’re pushing it. Snow can linger on upper spurs well into June. You need a high-clearance 4WD, aired-down tires, and recovery gear — there’s nobody coming to pull you out. Fuel in Lillooet before you leave and carry your own water. Cell service disappears fast once you’re in the drainage. The payoff is genuine solitude in a mountain landscape that looks like it’s been forgotten, which honestly is half the reason to go.
