Bralorne Pioneer Mine Road
Gold rush history in the Bridge River mountains
The Bralorne Pioneer Mine Road follows the old mining supply route through the Bridge River Valley, passing the abandoned workings of what was once Canada’s richest gold mine. Starting from Gold Bridge, the 35-kilometer track climbs through sub-alpine terrain and crosses the infamous Cadwallader Creek bridge—a narrow timber span that’s claimed more than a few side mirrors. The route continues past the ghost town of Bralorne to the Pioneer Mine headframe, still standing after decades of mountain weather.
This is challenging terrain demanding experienced drivers and capable rigs with rock sliders. Sharp granite outcrops and loose scree require careful line choice, especially on the final descent to the mine site. Best attempted June through September when avalanche danger subsides. No services exist beyond Gold Bridge, so carry tools, spare parts, and emergency supplies. The reward is stepping into authentic BC mining history while enjoying some of the Coast Mountains’ most dramatic scenery.
