Duffy Lake Road Technical Branch

Where Duffy Lake Road gets serious

Expert

The original Duffy Lake Road gets all the attention, but this unmarked technical branch splits north at Kilometer 23, climbing through a boulder field that’ll test your spotter skills and suspension travel. The route follows an old mining access road to the abandoned Cadwallader Creek claims, where rusted equipment sits frozen in time against the backdrop of Mount Meager’s glaciated peaks. You’ll navigate house-sized granite obstacles and cross three unnamed creeks before the trail dead-ends at 5,200 feet elevation.

Expert-level technical driving required — this isn’t a place for mall crawlers or weekend warriors. Expect full-day commitment with winch points, rock sliders, and 35-inch tires minimum. Best tackled July through September when snow clears, but creek crossings can rage during spring melt. No cell service, no camping, and no second chances if you break an axle. What you get is bragging rights and some of the most spectacular alpine scenery in the Coast Mountains, plus the satisfaction of conquering one of BC’s gnarliest unmarked routes.
