Black Hills National Forest Rochford Road Dispersed Sites
This dispersed area follows the historic Rochford Road corridor with 12-15 established sites tucked between old mine tailings and ponderosa pines. Sites vary from small tent spots to larger clearings that can handle big rigs. Most have fire rings and decent privacy between mature trees. Gets busy during Sturgis week and hunting seasons, otherwise peaceful. Elevation around 5,200 feet keeps nights cool even in summer.
Access from Highway 385 north of Hill City, then 4.8 miles on Forest Road 231 (Rochford Road). Good gravel surface suitable for any vehicle. Watch for mining artifacts—don’t disturb historical remnants. Water available seasonally from Rapid Creek tributary about 0.5 miles south of main camping area.
