Harney Peak Trail Dispersed Sites
Perched at 6,200 feet along the approach to Harney Peak, these dispersed sites nestle among granite boulders and towering ponderosa pines. Eight to ten spots offer level parking with natural rock windbreaks and established fire rings. The setting provides stunning views across the Black Hills and excellent access to summit hiking trails. Water must be packed in, and sites fill quickly during summer weekends.
The final 2.5 miles climb steeply on rough forest road with loose rocks and occasional washouts. 4WD recommended, especially after storms. Sites close during fire restrictions, typically mid-July through September.
