Chilcotin-Cariboo Circuit via Moose Valley
Fraser Plateau ranch country via working roads
The Chilcotin-Cariboo Circuit cuts through the heart of BC’s cattle country, following active logging roads and ranch tracks across the Fraser Plateau. You’ll cross the Chilcotin River at Alexis Creek, then climb into the Itcha Mountains where working cattle operations share the range with wild horses. The route passes Puntzi Lake and connects to the historic Bella Coola Road near Anahim Lake, offering glimpses of Coast Range peaks through morning fog.
This is moderate 4WD territory requiring high clearance for loose gravel sections and creek crossings. Summer months (June-September) provide best access when higher elevations clear of snow. Fuel is available in Williams Lake and Anahim Lake, but pack extra water and emergency supplies for the 300-kilometer circuit. You’ll earn spectacular alpine meadow camping and authentic ranch country that hasn’t changed much since the gold rush days.
