Superior National Forest Cascade River Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

Multiple established sites line Forest Road 165 (Cascade River Road) following the tumbling Cascade River upstream from Lake Superior. Sites offer flat spots for tents near the river with natural rock fire rings and access to several waterfalls within walking distance. The sound of rushing water masks any road noise from the occasional vehicle. Popular with fishermen targeting steelhead and brook trout runs.

Forest Road 165 is paved for the first few miles, then transitions to good gravel. Most sites are within 6 miles of the pavement. Peak season runs May through September with heavy mosquito activity in June-July. Winter access possible but requires snowmobiles or skis beyond the first gate.
